In honor of todays class I think it is only appropriate to post an interview that was put out a few years ago. This interview was taken on a reality tv show called Pretty Wild. During one of the episodes we see Alexis Neirs getting interviewed about a celebrity robbery that was happening around LA. Alexis was one of the suspects while filming her own reality tv show along with her two other sisters.
After completing an interview with Vanity Fair Alexis felt very content with what information she put out to the public. Once she got her hands on the article it was clearly not what she thought she said throughout the interview. This was the actual article that Vanity Fair put out. Some problems that Alexis saw with the article was that the person who interviewed her painted a completely different picture of what Alexis had told them.
Today in class I was put in the same position. When interviewing someone I find it very hard make sure you get out the right content and ideas. I could only imagine it being that much more complicated when dealing with issues that you do not agree with yourself. I believe that the person from Vanity Fair wanted to make the article more glamorous and interesting especially because not only was Alexis on reality tv at the time, but was going to be on trial. I really enjoy this kind of material and I hope to incorporate it into my final piece.
Interesting. I think there is a big ethical gray area or area of concern with this ethnographic approach to developing performances.
