#5 interview gone haywire

http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/2010/03/billionaire-girls-201003

In honor of todays class I think it is only appropriate to post an interview that was put out a few years ago.  This interview was taken on a reality tv show called Pretty Wild.  During one of the episodes we see Alexis Neirs getting interviewed about a celebrity robbery that was happening around LA.  Alexis was one of the suspects while filming her own reality tv show along with her two other sisters.

After completing an interview with Vanity Fair Alexis felt very content with what information she put out to the public.  Once she got her hands on the article it was clearly not what she thought she said throughout the interview.  This was the actual article that Vanity Fair put out.  Some problems that Alexis saw with the article was that the person who interviewed her painted a completely different picture of what Alexis had told them.

Today in class I was put in the same position.  When interviewing someone I find it very hard make sure you get out the right content and ideas.  I could only imagine it being that much more complicated when dealing with issues that you do not agree with yourself.  I believe that the person from Vanity Fair wanted to make the article more glamorous and interesting especially because not only was Alexis on reality tv at the time, but was going to be on trial.  I really enjoy this kind of material and I hope to incorporate it into my final piece.

#4 fifty shades of f***** up

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/13/movies/submitting-to-the-power-of-a-runaway-best-seller.html?_r=1

This weekend is going to be a very exciting one.  No, not just because it is Valentines Day, but the movie Fifty Shades of Grey comes out.  Every since the trilogy came out a few years ago there has been huge controversies.  Some say it's too erotic, violent and what not.
I have read all three books and I think otherwise.  I find myself reading more disturbing material for school work.  Yes, sex is a major concept that revolves around the book but once looked passed that there is a beautiful story.
For some odd reason, the books have my mind connecting them with the Trojan Women that we looked at earlier this semester.  For example, in both pieces sex is used as a sort of power.  In the Trojan Women it made the women look weak, but in Fifty Shades of Grey we see the main character Anastasia look at sex as a source of empowerment.  She uses it as a tool to help her understand the man she is in love with.

#3 Grammy's

http://www.ew.com/article/2015/02/09/grammys-2015-best-quotes-red-carpet-1

In honor of the Grammy's last week I thought it would only be appropriate to post something relating to them.  The event itself is always an entertaining thing to watch, but the red carpet is my favorite.   What I found most interesting about this article was how kids's got brought up with the business side of the equation.
I am a nanny on Tuesday's for two kids under the age of ten.  A couple months ago while playing "karaoke" the little girl and her friend decided they wanted to sing "Let it Go."  Not knowing who or where this song came from I just let it be.  Literally, that same week I heard the song again but this time was different.  It was coming from my twenty-seven year old cousin.  She then explained to me all about the movie Frozen and the great popularity that had everyone obsessed.
This relates to our classroom because in the pieces we look at a lot of time song is put into the picture.  The song is not just put in randomly, but defines a purpose when working with different figures.  For example, take Brecht for instance.  He makes it clear that music is made to comment on the piece NOT add on the piece.

#2 Power

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2015/02/07/jordan-vows-to-completely-wipe-out-isis/

War, fights, and neglect seem to be nothing new whenever I turn to the news.  As the reports seem to get more intense and bloody when relating to the ISIS group I am starting to see a major correlation.  The idea of power.  When we reach that age as kids and notice this concept it sticks to us until we take our last breath on earth.

All the pieces that we looked at thus far have had some concept of power.  Whether that be giving rights to a burial, having a king in charge of a town, or have a rebellion in order to gain that special prize.  My favorite piece that included power was the last play we looked at Mother Courage.

Mother Courage was a business women who tried to be a mother, but she did not have enough money to earn the best-mom award.  If she have had money to take care of her child I am sure she would have had a lot more respect in her town.  Due to the fact that the town was in war she didn't have many options.  The power was mainly present within the government, or in other words the soldiers who took her son away from her.

#1 text for life

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/03/text-messaging-texting-conversation_n_1566408.html

Today we have created a whole new form of communication.  That is our obsession with texting.  It has created a faster, easier, and more convenient way to transfer messages efficiently.  As more and more research come out we seem to be facing some major disadvantages that will soon be coming our way.

I find that for our class purposes, the idea of texting can be beneficial.  For example, a lot of the material that we have been looking at dates back to a whole other communication style.  I think it would be neat to incorporate some of the new ways that we communicate with one another into a final performance.

That final performance can be a Charles Mee influenced act.  With narration of text messages the audience will be informed how everything is intended to be portrayed.  The use of emojis would also be a cool way to express emotions throughout the piece.  Charles Mee is known for not creating strong relationships within the characters and this would be a plus when it comes to texting.  I find that today people steer away from personal phone calls because it is becoming too personal and text messages replace that with an informal typed message.
